Sade Sati calculator: dates by Moon sign
Choose your Moon sign (rashi) to see whether you are in Sade Sati or Dhaiya today, and the dates of every stay of Saturn that counts for your sign, from 1950 to 2100. It is worked out from the actual position of Saturn, sign by sign, and is a tradition shared for interest, not a prediction.
How Sade Sati is worked out
- Find your Moon sign (rashi) from the date, time and place of birth.
- Look up the sign Saturn is in on the day you ask about, in the sidereal zodiac.
- If Saturn is in the sign before your Moon sign, in it, or in the one after it, Sade Sati is running. If it is in the 4th or the 8th sign from your Moon sign, that is Dhaiya.
For example, for Makar (Capricorn) Moon sign the cycle that began in 2017 runs 26 January 2017 to 28 March 2025: the first phase while Saturn is in Dhanu, the middle phase in Makar and the last in Kumbh.
Sade Sati dates for every Moon sign, 2020 to 2045
Each row is one cycle; dates are inclusive, in UTC. Saturn sometimes steps back out of the three signs for a few months in the middle of a cycle; that break is counted in the same cycle.

Frequently asked questions
What is Sade Sati?
In Vedic astrology Sade Sati is the period of about seven and a half years when Saturn passes through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign and the sign after it. Saturn spends about two and a half years in each sign, so the three signs add up to roughly 7.5 years, which is what “sade sati” means. It comes around about every 29 to 30 years, when Saturn has gone once round the zodiac.
How do I know if I am in Sade Sati?
Find your Moon sign (rashi), then compare it with the sign Saturn is in. If Saturn is in your Moon sign or the one just before or after it, Sade Sati is on. Choose your rashi in the calculator above and it checks today's date. If you do not know your rashi, the rashi calculator finds it from the date, time and place of birth.
Which Moon signs have Sade Sati from 2025?
Saturn moved into Meen (Pisces) on 29 March 2025 in the sidereal zodiac. That puts Kumbh (Aquarius), Meen and Mesh (Aries) in Sade Sati. Saturn enters Mesh in June 2027, so Meen, Mesh and Vrishabh follow as it moves on, but it steps back into Meen from October 2027 to February 2028, so the Kumbh cycle ends then. The table on this page lists the dates for every Moon sign.
What is Dhaiya (Kantaka Shani)?
Dhaiya, also called Small Panoti or Kantaka and Ashtama Shani, is the two and a half years Saturn spends in the 4th or the 8th sign counted from your Moon sign. Traditions treat it as a smaller counterpart of Sade Sati. The calculator lists these stays alongside Sade Sati.
Does Saturn really stay in a sign for exactly two and a half years?
Only on average. Saturn turns retrograde for about four and a half months each year, so it can step back into the previous sign for a while before moving on. That is why a phase may appear as two stretches with dates in between, as in the calculator tables.
Which zodiac does this use?
The sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the usual choice in India. Saturn's sign here can differ from a Western tropical horoscope by almost a whole sign, so a Western Sun sign cannot be used; use the Vedic Moon sign.
Is Sade Sati bad luck?
Tradition calls it a testing period, but there is no evidence that it brings misfortune, and people describe it very differently. This page gives the dates as astronomical and calendar facts and does not predict anything or suggest remedies. If it worries you, a person you trust is better placed to talk it through.
Where do the dates come from?
From the position of Saturn on every day from 1899 to 2100, taken from NASA's JPL Horizons service, with the Lahiri ayanamsa subtracted to give the sidereal sign. Dates are in UTC and can be a day out in another time zone. They agree with the published Saturn transit dates, for example Saturn entering Kumbh on 17 January 2023 and Meen on 29 March 2025.
Is the Moon sign I choose saved anywhere?
No. Choosing a sign does not store anything, put anything in the page address or send anything to analytics.
