Vehicle number numerology calculator

Enter a car, bike or truck registration number to see its total, its root number from 1 to 9, a digit-by-digit breakdown and the planet Indian numerology links with that number. Add your birth day to compare it with your birth number. It is a traditional pastime, shared for interest, and a number plate does not predict anything.

Only the digits are added; letters, spaces and dashes are ignored. The number is worked out in your browser and is not saved or sent anywhere.

How to calculate the numerology of a vehicle number

  1. Write down the digits of the plate and leave out the letters, for example MH 12 AB 1234 gives 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4.
  2. Add the digits. The result is the compound number.
  3. Add the digits of that result, and repeat until one digit is left. That is the root number.

The made-up plate MH 12 AB 1234 has the digits 121234, which add up as 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 13. The total reduces as 13 → 1 + 3 = 4, so the root number is 4, linked with Rahu.

Root numbers 1 to 9 and their planets

Each root number from 1 to 9 has a planet attached in Indian tradition, the same list that is used for birth numbers and name numbers. Use the table to look up what your plate adds up to.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate vehicle number numerology?

Take the digits of the registration number, add them to get a total, then keep adding the digits of the total until one digit is left. That digit is the root number. For the made-up plate MH 12 AB 1234 the digits are 121234: 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 13, then 13 → 1 + 3 = 4.

Do the letters on a number plate count?

Many Indian guides add only the digits of the plate, so the state and series letters such as MH or AB are left out. This calculator follows that digits-only method and lists the letters it skipped.

Which number is best for a car or bike?

There is no best number. Tradition links each root number with a planet: 1 with the Sun (Surya), 2 with the Moon (Chandra), 3 with Jupiter (Guru), 4 with Rahu, 5 with Mercury (Budh), 6 with Venus (Shukra), 7 with Ketu, 8 with Saturn (Shani), 9 with Mars (Mangal). People who follow numerology often look for a root number that matches the owner's birth number, but it is a belief, not something that has been shown to affect a vehicle or its driver.

Does the vehicle number need to match my birth number?

Followers of the tradition often like it to, but it is optional and unproven. Enter your birth day in the calculator and it shows whether the two numbers match and what they make when added; that is arithmetic, not a verdict.

What is the compound number of a vehicle number?

The compound number is the sum of the plate's digits as it stands, such as the 13 for a plate with digits 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4. Keep adding until one digit remains and you reach the root number. Guides disagree on which of the two matters, so both appear in the result.

Can I use a bike, truck or foreign plate?

Yes. Enter any plate with up to 10 digits. The method is the same whatever the vehicle: add the digits and reduce.

Is the vehicle number I enter stored anywhere?

No. The plate is added up inside your browser tab only. It is not saved, not put in the page address, not sent to analytics, and nothing can be shared as a link.
