Business name numerology calculator
Type a business name, or several candidate names, to see its Chaldean and Pythagorean numbers: the compound number, the root number and the planet Indian numerology links with it. Pick a target number to see which names reach it. It is a traditional pastime, shared here for interest, and a number does not predict how a business will do.
How to calculate the numerology of a business name
- Write the name exactly as it will appear, in English letters. Spaces, hyphens and apostrophes are skipped.
- Give each letter its value from the Chaldean or Pythagorean chart, and add them. The result is the compound number.
- Add the digits of that total, and repeat until one digit is left. That is the root number. Pythagorean practice stops early at the master numbers 11, 22 and 33; Chaldean practice always goes down to one digit.
For example, the made-up name Sunrise Traders in the Chaldean system adds to 46 and reduces as 46 → 4 + 6 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1, so its root number is 1. In the Pythagorean system it adds to 64 and reduces as 64 → 6 + 4 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1, which gives 1. The same name can end on different numbers in the two systems.
Target numbers 1 to 9 and their planets
If you are choosing between names, you may want a target number. Indian numerology links each root number with one of the nine grahas, and writers link each with a few broad themes. These are the same traditional associations shown on the name number pages, not predictions about a business, and no number is better or luckier than another.
| Root number | Planet | Traditional themes | More |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | the Sun (Surya) | beginnings, independence, initiative | Number 1 |
| 2 | the Moon (Chandra) | partnership, cooperation, sensitivity | Number 2 |
| 3 | Jupiter (Guru) | expression, creativity, sociability | Number 3 |
| 4 | Rahu | structure, steadiness, hard work | Number 4 |
| 5 | Mercury (Budh) | change, curiosity, communication | Number 5 |
| 6 | Venus (Shukra) | care, home and family, harmony | Number 6 |
| 7 | Ketu | reflection, inquiry, the inner life | Number 7 |
| 8 | Saturn (Shani) | ambition, discipline, endurance | Number 8 |
| 9 | Mars (Mangal) | compassion, courage, completion | Number 9 |
Pythagorean practice also keeps 11, 22 and 33 as master numbers; each reduces to 2, 4 and 6 in Chaldean practice. Western writers link 4 with Uranus and 7 with Neptune instead of Rahu and Ketu.
Comparing candidate names
Put each candidate on its own line. The calculator lists every name in both systems, so you can see at once which reach your target and which do not. Adding a word such as Traders or Enterprises adds its letters to the total, so it is worth trying a name with and without it. The numbers are arithmetic on the letters only: the name that is easy to say, spell and remember is usually the better business choice whatever its number.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate business name numerology?
Turn each letter of the business name into its value from a chart, add the values to get the compound number, then add the digits of the total until one digit is left. That is the root number. For the made-up name Sunrise Traders, the Chaldean letters add to 46 and reduce as 46 → 4 + 6 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1; the Pythagorean letters add to 64 and reduce as 64 → 6 + 4 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1. The calculator above does the same for any name and shows each step.
Which system is used for a business name, Chaldean or Pythagorean?
Both are in use. Chaldean values letters by sound, uses only 1 to 8 and always reduces to one digit; it is widely used by Indian numerologists. Pythagorean follows alphabetical order 1 to 9 and keeps the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. There is no measure of accuracy for either, so the calculator shows both and you can decide which tradition you follow.
What is a lucky name number for a business?
Some people choose a target number they like and look for a name that adds up to it. The target table above lists the planet and the broad themes numerology writers link with each number, as traditional associations. This site does not rate any number as luckier than another, and there is no evidence that a business name's number affects how the business does.
What is the compound number?
The compound number is the plain total of all the letter values, before it is reduced. The root number is that total reduced to one digit. Both are shown, because different writers quote one or the other.
Can I compare several candidate names?
Yes. Type one name per line (up to eight) and, if you like, pick a target number. Each name is shown in both systems and the ones that end on your target are marked in words. It only does the arithmetic: it does not say which name is better.
Should I include Pvt Ltd, LLP or Traders in the name?
It depends on what you want to look at. Many people use the name as it will be written, and each added word adds its letter values to the total. Try the name with and without the extra words in the calculator and see what changes; the site does not say which choice is right.
Does a different spelling change the number?
Yes, because every letter adds its value to the total. Put the spellings on separate lines to see them side by side. The numerology name correction guide explains how one extra letter moves the total in each system.
Does the calculator work for names in Hindi or other scripts?
The calculator counts the English (Latin) letters A to Z only. Write the name in English letters as it will appear on the signboard or the registration, and any characters it cannot count are left out.
Is the business name I enter saved anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. The name is not stored, not added to the page address and not sent to analytics, and there is no share link for it.
