Name numerology calculator
Type a name to see its number in both classic systems, Pythagorean and Chaldean, with every letter value and each step of the reduction shown. It is a traditional pastime, shared here for interest: a number does not predict anything about a child.
How the calculator works
- The name is reduced to the letters A to Z. Accents are dropped (é counts as e), and spaces, hyphens and apostrophes are skipped. Digits and other scripts are not counted.
- Each letter gets its value from the system’s chart, and all the values are added up.
- The digits of the total are added together until one digit is left. Pythagorean practice stops early at the master numbers 11, 22 and 33; Chaldean practice always goes down to one digit.
For example, Aarav in the Pythagorean system is A 1, A 1, R 9, A 1, V 4: a total of 16, and 16 → 1 + 6 = 7. In the Chaldean system it is A 1, A 1, R 2, A 1, V 6: a total of 11, and 11 → 1 + 1 = 2. That total of 11 is a master number in Pythagorean practice, but traditional Chaldean practice reduces it.
Letter values

Frequently asked questions
Why does the calculator show two different numbers?
Pythagorean and Chaldean numerology give letters different values. Pythagorean numbers the alphabet 1 to 9 in order; Chaldean groups letters by sound, uses only 1 to 8, and reduces every total to one digit. The same name can therefore end on different numbers, as Aarav does (7 and 2).
Which system should I use?
Neither is more accurate in any measurable sense; they are two traditions. Pythagorean is the more common in Western books and websites. Chaldean is widely used by Indian numerologists for name numbers. Many families simply look at both.
Should I include the middle name or surname?
It depends on what you want to look at. Traditional name numerology uses the full name as it will be written, but many families check only the first name they are choosing. Type exactly the parts you want counted; changing the spelling or adding a part changes the result.
Is the name I type saved anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and the site does not store the name or send it to analytics. If you open or copy the share link, the name is part of that link's address, so anyone you send it to will see it.
