Chaldean numerology chart: letter values, with Pythagorean compared

Last updated

This is the Chaldean numerology chart for A to Z, printed next to the Pythagorean alphabet chart. Both turn a name into a number, but they give letters different values, so the same name often ends on different numbers. Below you can print the chart, see the practical differences and compare 24 common names in both.

Numerology alphabet chart: A to Z in both systems

Add up the values of the letters in a name, then add the digits of the total until one digit is left. The Chaldean column gives values 1 to 8 and no letter is assigned 9; a total can still reduce to 9. The Pythagorean column counts the alphabet 1 to 9 in order. This table prints on one page: use your browser’s print command and the menus are left off.

Frequently asked questions

Which is more accurate, Chaldean or Pythagorean numerology?

Neither can be called more accurate: both are traditions, and neither has scientific support. Many Indian numerologists use the Chaldean chart for names, while most Western books use Pythagorean. Pick the one your family or numerologist uses and stay consistent.

Why is there no 9 in the Chaldean chart?

Chaldean writers traditionally hold 9 apart as a sacred or complete number, so no letter is given it. A name can still reduce to 9 because totals are reduced by adding digits.

Where is the Chaldean numerology chart for letters A to Z?

It is the table near the top of this page, with the Pythagorean value of each letter beside it. Chaldean gives values 1 to 8 by sound, and no letter is given 9. Print the page to keep a copy of the chart.

Do both systems use master numbers?

Modern Pythagorean practice keeps 11, 22 and 33 instead of reducing them. Traditional Chaldean practice reduces every total to one digit.
