Love calculator by name
Type two names to play FLAMES, see the true love letter count and compare the two Chaldean name numbers. All three are counting games and arithmetic, shown step by step for fun. They are not a measure of a relationship and they predict nothing.
How FLAMES works
- Write the two names and cross out every letter that appears in both, one for one.
- Count the letters that are left in both names together. Call the count N.
- Go round F, L, A, M, E, S, striking every Nth letter and carrying on from the next one, until a single letter is left.
With the made-up names Aarav and Anaya, 4 letters are left after the shared ones are crossed out. Counting 4 at each step, the game ends on E, which the game reads as Enemies.
| Letter | Word in the game |
|---|---|
| F | Friends |
| L | Lovers |
| A | Affection |
| M | Marriage |
| E | Enemies |
| S | Siblings |
How the true love count works
Tally how many times T, R, U, E, L, O, V and E appear across both names. Add each pair of neighbours to make a shorter row (a sum of 10 or more is cut down to one digit by adding its digits) and repeat until two numbers are left, which are read as a percentage. The example names give the counts 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 0, then 1 1 0 0 0 1 1, then 2 1 0 0 1 2, then 3 1 0 1 3, then 4 1 1 4, then 5 2 5, then 7 7, so 77%. Because the carry rule differs between versions of the game, another site may show a different figure for the same names.
The two name numbers
Each name is added with the Chaldean letter table and reduced to one digit, the way Indian numerology reads a name. The calculator lists both numbers, says whether they match and reduces the two totals added together. If you want the full breakdown for one name, with every letter value, use the name numerology calculator.

Frequently asked questions
How does a love calculator by name work?
It runs the two names through a fixed counting rule and shows the answer. This page uses three: FLAMES (cross out the letters both names share, count what is left, then strike letters from F-L-A-M-E-S), the true love count (tally the letters of TRUELOVE across both names and add neighbours until two digits remain) and the Chaldean name numbers of each name. Every step is shown, so you can check the arithmetic by hand.
Is a love calculator accurate?
It is accurate as arithmetic and meaningless as a prediction. The result depends only on the spelling of two names, so changing one letter can change it. It does not describe the two people. Treat it as a party game.
How do you play FLAMES?
Write both names, cross out each letter that appears in both (one for one), and count the letters left. Then go round the word FLAMES striking every Nth letter, where N is that count, until one letter is left. The letters stand for Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings. For Aarav and Anaya, 4 letters are left and the game ends on E, which is Enemies.
What does FLAMES stand for?
F is Friends, L is Lovers, A is Affection, M is Marriage, E is Enemies and S is Siblings. The words are part of the game and carry no meaning beyond it.
What if FLAMES gives no result?
If the two names use exactly the same letters, every letter is crossed out and there is nothing to count, so the calculator says so instead of inventing an answer.
How is the true love percentage worked out?
Count how many times each of T, R, U, E, L, O, V, E appears in the two names together. That gives eight numbers. Add each neighbouring pair (a sum of 10 or more is cut down to one digit by adding its digits) to make a shorter row, and repeat until two numbers are left. Read them as a percentage. For Aarav and Anaya the counts are 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 and the count ends at 77%. Other versions of the game handle the carry differently, so another site may give another number.
What are the Chaldean name numbers for?
Each name is added letter by letter with the Chaldean table and reduced to one digit; the calculator shows whether the two numbers match and what the two totals make together. For Aarav and Anaya the name numbers are 2 and 9, and the totals together reduce as 20 → 2 + 0 = 2. It is the same method as the name numerology calculator.
Does it use my full name or only the first name?
Whatever you type. Players usually enter first names, but you can enter full names. Spaces, hyphens and punctuation are ignored, and accented letters count as their plain letter.
Are the names I type saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. The names are not stored, not added to the page address, not sent to analytics, and there is no share link.
