Baby name by date of birth: name numbers from mulank and bhagyank

Enter a baby’s date of birth or due date to see its birth number (mulank) and destiny number (bhagyank), the name numbers Indian numerology traditionally pairs with them, and names from this site’s list that add up to those numbers. It is a traditional pastime shared for interest: a number does not predict anything about a child.

Any date from 1900 to 2100. Only the date is used, not the time or place of birth.

How a name is matched to a date of birth

  1. Birth number (mulank): the day of the month reduced to one digit.
  2. Destiny number (bhagyank): every digit of the full date added, then reduced to one digit.
  3. Name number (namank): the letters of the name valued in the Chaldean or Pythagorean chart, added and reduced to one digit.
  4. The pairing: each number has a ruling planet in Indian numerology. A name number is called friendly when its planet is a natural friend of the birth or destiny number’s planet (or shares it: 4 and 8, and 7 and 9, count as friendly to each other), neutral when it is neither, and less favoured when it is a natural enemy. “Less favoured” is only the tradition’s label, not a warning.

For a baby born on 14 August 2021: birth number 5 (14 → 1 + 4 = 5), destiny number 9 (1 + 4 + 0 + 8 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 18 → 1 + 8 = 9). Name numbers friendly to both: 1. To work out a name’s own number, use the name numerology calculator; for the birth and destiny numbers alone, see the lucky number by date of birth calculator. To see the same date laid out in the 4-9-2 magic square, try the Lo Shu grid calculator.

Name numbers paired with each birth or destiny number

The same table serves the birth number and the destiny number. It uses the classical natural friendships between the planets: the Sun is a friend of the Moon, Mars and Jupiter and an enemy of Venus and Saturn, and so on. The numbers 4 and 7 belong to Rahu and Ketu, which have no classical friendship table; the common convention of reading Rahu like Saturn and Ketu like Mars is used. Each row is read from the point of view of the number on the left, so the friendships are not always mutual. Numerologists differ on all of this, so this is one table among several.

Rashi and nakshatra need the time and place

A rashi (Moon sign) and nakshatra (birth star) are not found from a date alone. They depend on where the Moon was at the exact time and place of birth, and the Moon changes sign every two to three days, so a date can straddle two rashis. If you have the birth star, the rashi name finder gives the traditional starting letters, and the rashi letters chart and nakshatra letters chart list them all. To check a name you already like, see its rashi by name or nakshatra by name.

With the time of birth as well, the gandmool nakshatra calculator checks whether the birth star is one of the six gandmool nakshatras, and the chandrashtama calculator lists the days each month the Moon is in the 8th rashi from the birth rashi.

To see how the numbers differ, read the namank guide and the Chaldean and Pythagorean comparison, or baby name numerology for using numbers sensibly on a shortlist.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a baby name by date of birth?

A date of birth cannot pick a name for you, but numerology has a long-standing way to connect the two. Work out the birth number (mulank) from the day of the month and the destiny number (bhagyank) from the whole date, then look at names whose name number is traditionally friendly to them. Numerology has no scientific evidence behind it, so treat the result as one small point of interest, not a rule.

Which name numbers go with my birth number?

Writers who match name numbers to birth numbers usually compare the planets Indian numerology gives to each number. This tool uses the classical friendships between those planets. For example, a baby born on 14 August 2021 has birth number 5 and destiny number 9, and the name numbers friendly to both are 1. Other writers use other tables, so you will see different lists elsewhere.

Does a baby name by date of birth use the rashi or nakshatra?

Not here. Rashi and nakshatra come from the Moon's position at the exact time and place of birth, which a date alone cannot give. If you have the birth star, use the rashi name finder for the traditional starting letters; this tool covers the number side only.

Which numerology system is used for the name?

Both are shown. The Chaldean system, common in India, gives letters values 1 to 8 by sound; the Pythagorean system counts A to Z in order from 1 to 9. A name's number depends on the system and on the spelling, so a name can sit under different numbers in the two.

Where do the names come from?

For now the names are common Indian and international names used as examples, and their numbers are worked out from the letters. No meanings are claimed for the examples.

Is the date I enter saved anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the site does not store the date or send it to analytics. If you open or copy the share link, the date is part of that link's address, so anyone you send it to will see it.
